Today is King’s Day in the Netherlands. The Netherlands knows the tradition of a National Holiday on the Queen’s ofr King’s Day. The tradition started on August 31th 1891 when the Dutch  celebrated Queen Wilhelmina’s birthday.for the first time. Her daughter was born April 30th, so when she succeeded her mother Queen’s Day was April 30th since 1949. Daughter Beatrix did not change that day when she became Queen in 1981 (she was born January 31th), but her son wished the day to be held on April 27th.

So we all have a National Holiday and a day off (and/or a very long weekend for those who takes friday with it)
