Today’s birthday April 9th 1821 : French poet Charles (Pierre) Baudelaire, art critic and translator of Edgar Allen Poe.

His most famous poetry bundle, Les Fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil), expresses the changing nature of beauty in modern, industrializing Paris during the 19th century. The poems deal with themes relating to decadence and eroticism and were rather controversial in those times.
