Edgar Wallace wrote a famous series of thrillers including “the Four Just Men” about four men, an Englishman, a Frenchman, Italian and American who are solving various cases together each from their own country. 

The novels were also published in an entertaining  British TV series version of 1960s.

Wallace  had to create his own publishing company, Tallis, to publish the first novel and decided to manage a ’guess the murder methodcompetition in the Daily Mail with a prize of £1,000 (equivalent in purchasing power to at least £93,000 in 2013)
